Parivaar

Parivaar

Parivaar is a dynamic student-led forum committed to social entrepreneurship and servicelearning, deeply aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through initiatives such as Community Lunch and Handful of Food, Parivaar directly supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger by providing nutritious meals to underserved children and university students facing food insecurity. Additionally, these initiatives strengthen SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by ensuring access to healthy, hygienically prepared food that enhances overall wellness and academic performance. The program also actively fosters student leadership and inclusion, reflecting SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, as students learn hospitality skills, empathy, and civic responsibility through real-world community engagement. By integrating sustainable practices, collaborations, and awareness outreach, Parivaar continues to champion youth-driven social impact within and beyond the university ecosystem.

Community lunch - “If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.” - Buddha. Community lunch is an everyday initiative taken by the Department of Hotel Management. We provide 350 meals - 5 days a week (Monday to Friday), in the main campus during the lunch break. The community lunch kitchen is operated by students with the help of support staff and faculty of the department. The prefixed cyclic menu is planned with the nutritious aspects in mind, prepared by the students. Community lunch helps the students to inculcate values and learn the techniques of bulk cooking. HFF - Handful of food is an extension activity by the department on the occasion of 175th birth anniversary of our founder St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, where we provide nutritious mid-day meals for 250 school children. The Christ fraternity supports this initiative by contributing commodities to the department to be used for the same. The kitchen is fully operated and managed by the students of the Department of Hotel Management. Awareness Programme – is conducted every month by the students selected from the parivar group. It is an awareness programme where in every month a particular topic is chosen and the selected students are required to collect information and create a unique way in raising awareness. Breast Cancer, Environment Day, Water recycle, National Tourism Day, Mental Health, Animal Abuse, Pollution awareness etc., are some of the areas that this event focuses on.
